Yoshi! Chapter 5 is finally out! Though, I might add, it was a lot shorterthan I imagined, but that’s okay since Chapter 4 turned out toolong. More than 6000 words actually. And Chapter 5 is only a littlemore than 3000 so the two should cancel out I guess…

Anyway, though this is already the fifth, it istechnically only the first since all the previous chapters weremostly for setting up. Because the novel takes place in a differentworld, I felt like I had to characterize the people first. Whetherthat worked or not is up to you, but here’s a nutshell ofeverything that happened. Feel free to ask questions in the commentssection below. Also, I apologize for the lousy writing style. Evenuntil now, I’m still looking for Synth’s persona.

Chapter1 focused mostly on Synth’s feeling of alienation and a chancemeeting with a <<Half-Blood>> of <<Time>> and<<Air>>. It also introduces us subtly to the <<Forestof Reminiscence>>, which I’m afraid to say as of now has notmuch contribution to the plot. Let’s just see how things turn out.

Chapter2 gives us an overview of his school life. There is a small fightscene between <<Fire>>, <<Air>>, <<Gravity>>and <<Death>>, giving us a small idea of the number of<<Half-Bloods>> in the land of <<Time>>.Also, that’s where he sees Professor Rogue for the first time, whoalthough is not a very important character in the first book, willprove to have valuable contributions in the second or third. Don’tget me wrong. He’s a very veryimportant character. In fact, I could shift the point of view rightnow and tell the whole saga from his eyes.

Chapter3 in turn introduces Synth’s foster mother, who still has yet to benamed. But if you really have read through this novel, then I thinkyou know her name already without realizing it (woops, no morespoilers). She’s a bit energetic, too cheerful for her age in fact. That’s why I decided to draw her with an ahoge in the novel cover.Yup, that’s her. She really likes doing things her own way, forbetter or for worse. Luckily, more often for the better. She goes tothe Cordelian Islands with Synth in Chapter 3 to forge a purificationamulet, <<Amber Pulse>>.

Andlast but not least, I had to characterize Keith. I can’t stressenough that she’s very tight-lipped. Not a very important characterbut she’ll have striking contributions for the first part. Shefixes and returns Heather’s locket on Parents’ Day, Chapter 4. Iactually wasn’t planning on revealing she was a <<Walker>>just yet, but hey, the situation calls for it. We also get the firstview of Heather’s parents, (remember, <<Air>> is aprideful element) and a deeper characterization of Rogue as we seethat Synth’s pet previously belonged to him. Finally, there’salso the subplot of faith in the twelve gods, the <<Oracles>>.

Chapter5 is really where the action begins. The first four were more likeside stories to begin with. Synth struggles to find his own<<Grimoire>>, but we’ll later see that that’s theleast of his problems, as the relationship between him and his momcontinues to plummet. I actually tried an earlier version of this, where Synth was Ethan and Heather was Heidi and instead of a mother,he was taken in by a man with a very “Gildarts” effect to him. Itturned out horrible. There’s also a version of Jeremy and Nastasha.I think it’s still here somewhere. Chapter 5 is actually anadaptation of these failed first chapters.

Upnext, Synth will have a confrontation with the headmaster about his“unique” <<Grimoire>>. Novel illustrations for theother chapters are also underway. Stay tuned!

Okay, I finally figured this out and members are now allowed to post. Atleast only on the blogs section anyway. I still don't know how to make comment boxes available on standard pages.
